Redact a PDFso the words are gone

A black rectangle is not a redaction

Almost every tool that offers redaction draws a black box over the words and saves the file. The box is a drawing instruction and the text is still underneath it — selectable, copyable, and returned by any extractor. Documents have been published that way, looking redacted and reading perfectly to anyone who dragged a cursor across them. Docqify re-draws each marked page without the words in it, so there is nothing left to select. Pages you did not mark are copied across untouched and keep their searchable text.

• A marked page is re-drawn as an image with the areas painted out. The text objects are not hidden — they are not in the file at all.
• Only marked pages are re-drawn. Redacting one line of a forty-page contract costs the searchable text of one page, not of the document.
• Because a redacted page becomes a picture, its text can no longer be selected or searched. That is the price of the words actually being gone.
• Everything runs on your device. The page ships a Content Security Policy that blocks connections to any other origin, so a document you redact here cannot be sent anywhere.
