What happens to transparent areas in a PNG?

PDF pages are opaque, so transparency has to resolve to something. Docqify gives you the choice under Page background — white, black or a custom colour — and applies it consistently across every page. Files that are fully opaque are left exactly as they are.

Will my screenshots stay sharp?

Yes. PNG is lossless, and at the highest quality setting Docqify does not re-compress it, so text and thin lines keep their hard edges. If you lower the quality to shrink the file, screenshots are the first thing to show it — text softens before photographs do.

Can I make the text in my screenshots searchable?

Yes, and it is free. Turn on "Make text searchable" and Docqify reads the words in each image and embeds them as an invisible layer behind the page. The PDF looks identical, but you can select, copy and Ctrl+F the text, and screen readers can read it. Recognition runs entirely on your device.

PNG to PDF, done properly

PNG is lossless, so text, screenshots, logos and line art stay razor sharp — which is exactly why it is the wrong format to re-compress on the way into a PDF. The real question with PNG is the alpha channel: PDF pages have no concept of transparency, so something has to sit behind it. Docqify lets you choose white, black, or any colour as the page background rather than silently flattening to white, and it detects which of your files actually carry transparency instead of guessing from the file extension.
